A Bar Ranch recognizes the need for good, solid ranch horses and for the past 35 years has worked to build such a program. The ranch became Ranching Heritage Breeder’s in 2012 and was awarded 2020 AQHA’s Best of the Remuda Award which honors the contribution's ranch horses have made to the heritage of the American Quarter Horse.

Mike and Martha became Lifetime Members in 1996 and have received awards from AQHA in recognition of Ten, Twenty, and Thirty Years of breeding in the American Quarter Horse Association during the years of 1990-2020.

Mike began serving a five-year term on AQHA’s Ranching Heritage Breeders Council in 2015 and now Turner is currently serving on the RHB Council. Five years ago, Mike created AQHA internships allowing college students the opportunity to experience ranching and livestock marketing firsthand. This endeavor has been rewarding for both the ranch and students.

A performance horse program is an integral part at A Bar Ranch, maintaining a broodmare band of 100 head focused on strong modern mare families with cow conformation and ability mated to sons of Metallic Cat, Dual Rey, Peptos Stylish Oak, Boonlight Dancer, Ima Son O Sugar, and Tanquery Gin.The ranch maintains a closed herd where 99% of the mares are pasture bred.

Traditionally the ranch has two sales a year, June and November. However, this year A Bar Ranch has decided to combine the two sales.  It will be held at the ranch headquarters in Claremore, OK on October 8th & 9th. This two day event will host the futurity competition and sale. The competition includes four events: trail, halter, cowhorse, and cut &capture. $20,000 is added to the futurity where contestants compete riding A Bar Ranch bred genetics.

Offered at the sale will be 10 broke geldings, 40 started two-year-old’s, 40 weaned foals, and 15 broodmares. If you have questions about any of the horses for sale please contact us, we would love to answer any questions you might have!
